Romania has 58 designations of origin protected in the EU: 54 wines (41 PDO and 13 PGI) and 4 cheeses (1 PDO and 3 PGI). This page lists them with their type, the year of protection and the legal text of each in the European Commission’s eAmbrosia register.

In brief

The oldest on the list is “Aiud” (protected since 2007); 51 designations share that year. 7 designations have been protected since 2010. For 58 of them the country’s interactive profile draws the production area on a map; PGI areas and some PDO areas are at the level of administrative units and may be larger than the real area.
